Description:
This course prepares direct care staff in licensed residential and congregate care settings to implement essential health and mental health procedures required under state law and agency policy. Focused on early assessment, safe medication practices, and behavioral health support, this training equips staff with the foundational skills to meet regulatory expectations and provide trauma-informed care.
Participants will learn how to perform timely intake assessments, administer medications safely, and recognize/respond to behavioral health needs in accordance with state statutes, licensing rules, and best practice standards.

Course Content
Lesson 1: Conduct Initial Health & Behavioral Assessments
Lesson Content
Identify required screening timelines and determine essential medical and behavioral health information required during intake in compliance with Arizona Administrative Code R21-7-224.
Define the purpose of the Initial Wellness Screening
Recognize signs of injury or illness requiring action
Describe required documentation and follow-up
Distinguish screening from a full medical exam
Understand authorization and supervisor verification requirements
Lesson 2: Administer Medications Safely & Accurately
